Known for his ‘smoking suit’ and the ‘tuxedo suit’ for women, think Bianca Jagger in her infamous white tuxedo suit, Yves Saint Laurent launched his label in 1961. Yves is one of the greatest fashion names of the late 20th century, and a brand that still has a strong influential presence in fashion today.
In 1966 YSL was the first to launch the modern concept of luxury womens' prêt-à-porter, in a collection called Rive Gauche. Rive Gauche boutiques were soon opened throughout the world, allowing fashion‑conscious working individuals to wear Yves Saint Laurent designs.
